Founded in 1993 in The Netherlands, The Gerbera Factory began with the production of finished potted gerbera. As the business became successful and expanded sales, improving varieties for more efficiency and profitability became a focus. The variety enhancements became more valuable and a color assortment evolved with new variety selections. Other growers soon realized the value and benefits of the newer varieties, and the research / development part of Lekkerkerk Plants became a priority. Since those first few varieties, The Gerbera Factory has introduced the Fortune series of gerbera and most recently introduced the Crazy Daisy mix - creating a new generation of early flowering, efficient varieties.

As finished potted production has increased and the variety list of new cultivars has developed, Lekkerkerk Plants decided to move to a more accommodating location and a larger facility in 2007. Construction was finished in 2008 and now the new facilities are an outstanding feature of the program.
